    Advrcntr2.dll not found

Recently I formatted my hard drive, and it only has the most basic things installed. Windows XP home and updates. I just installed Nero express 6. I was using DVD shrink before I formatted, it worked great. After format, I installed free version of Nero, until I got a copy of nero express 6. When I installed Nero Express 6 tonight, it gave me below error even though I reinstalled the disk 3 times.

This program requires the file advrcntr2.dll, which was not found on this system.
All I wanted to do is get this software working.

    Things I've tried:

Downloaded advrcntr2.dll and put it in my c:/windows/system and c:/windows/system32 folder.
Also copied file into the c:/programfiles/common files/ahead/lib folder
But this error won't go away to allow me to burn dvds.

    Please help!

I think you don't need to put it on system and system32 folder. So better you remove it from there and see if it works. Also if you haven't rebooted your system then you might need to do that. Hope this helps you.

    Re: Advrcntr2.dll not found

Advrcntr2.dll errors may show up in few different ways depending on how it was generated. Here are the more common one's that people usually sees, with the first one being in your case:

    • "This program requires the file advrcntr2.dll, which was not found on this system."
    • "File advrcntr2.dll not found"
    • "ADVRCNTR2.DLL MISSING"

It occurs due to issues with the Nero CD and DVD burning software program. The advrcntr2.dll DLL file is a file that must exist in the correct folder for Nero to burn CDs or DVDs.

Important Note: Do not, under any circumstances, download the advrcntr2.dll DLL file from any "DLL download site." There are several reasons that downloading DLLs from these sites are never a good idea.

    To fix this issue:

Note: If you've already downloaded advrcntr2.dll from one of the DLL download sites, remove it from wherever you copied it to and continue with the following steps.
    • Uninstall Nero from your computer.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Reinstall Nero from your original installation CD or downloaded file. Hopefully, this step should restore the advrcntr2.dll file.
    • Install the latest update to your Nero version if there is one available.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Run a virus/malware scan of your entire system.

Note: The advrcntr2.dll file should be located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib folder. If you find the advrcntr2.dll file in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, chances are it is not Nero's legitimate advrcntr2.dll file.

Just try to uninstall and reinstall, it should fix your problem. Use Nero CleanTool to delete all Nero entries from your system.

Step 1: For a later reinstallation of Nero it is necessary that you find and note your serial number before uninstalling Nero.

You will find your serial number as follows:

    1. Launch Nero StartSmart.
    2. To do so, double-click the icon "Nero StartSmart" on your desktop. If you do not have a shortcut to Nero StartSmart on your desktop, open Nero StartSmart as follows: Click "Start" in the Windows start menu. Subsequently click the entries "All Programs"-"Nero”-"Nero ToolKit" - “Nero ControlCenter”.
    3. Nero Control Center will open. Click the "License" icon on the left side to see your serial number
    4. Your serial number is displayed in the window on the right.
    5. Please write down your serial number.

Alternatively, you can also find your serial number in the Windows registry.

    Please proceed as follows:

    1. Click "Start" in the Windows start menu.
    2. Click the "Run" command.
    3. The window "Run" will open. Enter "regedit" in the "Open" text field and click the "OK" button.
    4. The registry window will open. You will find your serial number on the left side in the navigation tree.
Simply go into the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Installation\Families\Nero\Info
    5. Your serial number is displayed next to the "Serial7" entry. It is structured as follows:
    Retail version: 1Cxx-xxxx-xxxx-...
    Nero Essentials: 4Cxx-xxxx-xxxx-...
    6. Please write down your serial number.

    Step 2:

Now start uninstalling all Nero applications from your computer using the Nero CleanTool.

    Please proceed as follows:

    1. Download the Nero CleanTool, save this file to your desktop.
    2. Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
    3. Double-click on the unzipped EXE-file to start the CleanTool. The window “Nero General Clean Tool” will open. The installed Nero version will be displayed.
    4. Activate the checkboxes in the displayed Nero version.
    5. Then click the “Clean” button. A status window will open. The execution of the tool may take several minutes.
    6. Please wait until the progress bar has moved completely to the right.
    7. In the window “Nero General Clean Tool” click the “Exit” button as soon as the erasing procedure is completed.
    8. Reboot your computer. The Nero CleanTool has removed all Nero entries from your computer.
