Problem with media player

I am using windows xp and Internet explorer 7 ,I want to use different media players, i would like to have a default player for video, and i would like to choose between, VLC PLayer , quick time, real player for audio, How can i set this up??

Many times i tried to remove quicktime it took my icons of internet explorer from the Desktop,Can anyone help me out ?

If you want to have a different default player for your video you need to Follow the steps;-

1. Right click on a video file .
   
2. select open with.. choose program.
   
3. when you choose the program you want to open it with then you should see an option to "Always use this program to open the file" some kind of message and check the checkbox.
