format the pc ... but then the files encrypted by TrueCrypt?

    Hello world
"It's time to format my laptop, but my problem is this:
I have an external hard disk from 500g, 250g of a partition of that disc is encrypted with TrueCrypt 5.a
Once formatted the Pc can not lose access to encrypted folders?
how do I proceed to be able to format without the risk of losing all folders encrypted
    Thanks!

If not encrypted format the partition should still be able to access the encrypted area once you've reinstalled truecrypt

But everything depends on the person reinstall copies of the system, if made via cd recovery of the laptop is likely to make pies

if you use a regular cd Installation asking you where to install the system and you choose the partition C and not touch the encrypted partition, then everything should be fine

    in theory

but as could anything go wrong from a human point of view it is better to make a backup of data on DVD or on an external hard disk

What should be done anyway regardless of encryption

if the disk of the laptop goes to ruin the data encrypted or not practically lost a son to spend less figures for recovery

    Meanwhile, thanks
then I operating system, Windows XP, is installed in the laptop internal Hard Disk, the encrypted partition instead is in a external hard disk that I am not going to format, my fear is, format the part where the operating system, if an not able to find problems recognition password truecrypt and more so I can not decrypt the files.
the most important things are stored on DVD, but if I can save the partition is better.

All information to decrypt the partition contains within itself. So even if you delete the program (Truecrypt) you format your system, the partition will be equally accessible.

    PS
TrueCrypt does not need to be installed, you can also use portable mode, inserting it into a pendrive (or use a live CD)
