Windows media player stopped working error

Since yesterday onwards I can't run Windows Media Player 11, whatever be it a video (avi, mpeg, etc) or an audio file (mp3, wav, etc). Every time I start Windows Media Player, I get the message

"Windows media player stopped working."

I uninstalled all the codecs but the same problem still continues.

Go to Start, select Run and type

regsvr32.exe wmp.dll

Note: Try it with administrator privileges
