Step 1: Vista's User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled for these steps to work (Control Panel -> Turn User Account Control Off). You may enable UAC back on after these steps. And you should run this as admin.
Step 2: Download subinacl.msi from Microsoft and install it.
Step 3: Download my modified version of reset.cmd from here and save the file in 'C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'.
    for Vista 64-bit: to 'C:\Program Files (X86)\Windows Resource Kits\Tools'
Step 4: Open Command Prompt (press the Windows Start button and type CMD) and type the following without quotes (hit Enter):
    'cd c:\program files\windows resource kits\tools'
    for Vista 64-bit: 'cd c:\program files (X86)\windows resource kits\tools'
Step 5: Now type 'reset.cmd' and hit Enter (without quotes)
You will see the Command Line Tool running for some seconds. The issue should have been fixed and Quicktime should run again.
    Hi revvXP,

Follow the above suggestions to solve your issue, it seems that viceman's solution is missing some points, that why you were getting errors. Hopefully after going through with all the steps listed above you will be able to solve your issue.

i tryed that, when i download the subinacl.msi and tried installed it, all i see is>the installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\Program Files (x86) Windows Resource Kits\Tools\tooldownloadreadme.htm. then i press ok, then the set up installer pops up again and says "SET UP FAILED The installation of subinacl.exe ended prematurely because of an error. your system has not been modified. to install subinacl.exe a later time please run this set up wizard again. click finish to exit the set up wizard< thats what i see, also in first time i tried all i seen was a small black screen popped up in a split second and thats all i've seen. this is not workin for me. probably don't like my computer, LOL!

thanks alot! it worked! glad i found this site! but only the quicktime works, how do i get the itunes to work? it says after itunes+quicktime finishes installing, "open itunes when installer exsists" <- that shows up. is there any solution to get itunes to work? would be nice cause my wife needs music, well ya'll know we all can't go without music, its life right? and thanks for the quicktime solution!

ok, i've done all the steps, and it worked only to open quicktime, but it did not work at all, can't play the music or videos, there was an error. also can't even open itunes at all! because some files are missing, or when installs finishes says "open installer when installer exsists"..well i guess this solution don't work for me. probably wait till itunes fixes there own problem. never had any problems with itunes until this update "itunes 10" came along, shouldn't of update at all, the one before that worked just fine. what a deal! well thanks for the help anyway man! at least i tried.

You will need either the winrar software or the winzip software to extract the content from the files. Download it from here and install it on your pc. Once installed then download the files from this thread and right click on it and then take options as extract here and the file will be extracted on your hard disk. After that follow the instructions given on this thread properly.

i am still trying and trying to install itunes! need to get my ipod touch goin! need help!! here is my problem below:

i think i messd up my computer! after i used the (windows installer clean-up utility)..that was before i tried the glary utilities. but later i tried it, but didn't work. ok below is now my problem after using the windows installer clean-up utility<<>>รข
and deleted everything that comes with itunes..

    1) downloaded itunes again for the 12th time! rebooted, went to download folder, started the itunes64setup and installed it.

    2) then a problem again, but a different one. "could not open key: Unkknown\Components had alot of numbers and letters, varify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your Support personnel.
    RollsBack
    3) the installer has insufficient privilages to access this directory: C\program Files (x86)\Bonjour\Bonjour.resources. the installation cannot continue. log on as admin or contact your system admin. (did log on as admin and always does)
    RollsBack
    4) There is a problem with this windows installer package. a program required for this to complete could not be run. contact your support personnel or package vendor.
    RollsBack
    5) could not open key: Unkknown\Components\ with alot of number and letters...don't want to type em cause tired of lookin at em, lol!
    RollsBack
    6) Last! the installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully, itunes requires Quicktime. Itunes Installer Interrupted.) "and will never install on your computer! never! lol!
ok i've uninstalled the "apple mobile device support" which only installed, rebooted...tried the glary utilities...then tried again. nothing, same thing above.. i tried..and my dog was just barking in his sleep.haha! well i wonder if there is a way to get that fixd?

    Hi revvXP,

I too used to get similar kind of problem But I solved this problem which was related to the below key that was offending the permissions:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\108B43C0CEA676640B35306AE7D24051

Download a program called REGassasin from malwarebytes.org. and use it to delete the above key, it will of course not succeed because it is super protected key, but it does end up releasing the permissions, so you click on it, go to permissions, and give username administrator access to it, read and write, then uninstall itunes, and reinstall it. This ended up working for me. let

What error message you are getting while you are trying to install the iTunes in Windows Vista? Anyways just try the below given step and see whether this helps you to install the iTunes or not.

    • Choose Start > Computer
    • In Computer, open the "C:" drive.
    • Open the Users folder.
    • Double-click the folder titled with your username.
    • If you see an AppData folder, skip to step 10. If you don't see an AppData folder, proceed to the next step.
    • Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.
    • Click the View tab.
    • Select the option to "Show hidden files and folders." (In Windows 7 this option will be called "Show hidden files, folders, and drives").
    • Click OK.
    • Double-click the AppData folder to open it. If Windows needs your permission to continue click Continue.
    • Double-click the Local folder to open it.
    • Right-click on the Temp folder and choose Delete.
    • In the confirmation dialog that appears click Yes.
    • If you are unable to delete the Temp folder, close all programs, especially those in the Notification area ("System Tray") of the Windows Task bar and repeat step 12.
    • Restart your computer.

Also let me know about the result so that i can help you with more solution.

    Hi revvXP,

Why dont you create a new user account and install any version of itunes on that account, you just have to go to start>>control panel>>user accounts >>create a new user account that has admin privileges. Once this account is created then try to install iTunes for all users. If it installs, log out and go to your usual account and check you have access to iTunes and can use the program, set it to find your music and create the library. Hope that works

oh man! i've tried that last month but i see the same exact ploblem, well...if i figure anything out i will post it. i guess only thing to do is get an external hard drive to save all you got as of programs into that, then do a (restore system to factory default) or other from recent backup from where it use to work. then install itunes as well, and if works, put ur other programs back of what u backd up from the external hard drive, or flash drive.
this update has got me since i updated it, tryin everything just to get this fixed with no luck! well if i get it to work, i will post it. or if any help would be good, thanks for the suggestion tho!

I had provided a link of file which you have to download and run in your system. This might fix the error for the time being. It is a modified version of reset.cmd. Download the file first and then save the file in the Windows Directory. You have to go in C > Program Files > Windows Resource Kits > Tools. Inside that paste the file. Then type reset cmd and hit enter in your run box. After a while you can see a command line tool.
    subinacl.msi
