Where is the reset.cmd???? When ich download the file reset.zip, there is the file subinacl.msi in there. What i do with this file?

This is the right reset.cmd file.

Step 1: Download subinacl.msi and install it

Step 2: Download the attached file, unzip it into C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools
    or C:\Program Files(x86)\Windows Resource Kits\Tools

    Doubleclick it!

    It works at my PC.

i dont have the reset command thing? all i get is a subinacl application. i run it, and then it runs this black screen thing, but only for less than a second, and i tried to run quicktime and it still says error, help?!

Download the subinacl.msi from here and then install it on your pc. Go to the root directory shown in the above post made by dannyff2009 and then download the reset.zip files from the same post and click it and the error's will be solved

i see your modified version of reset.cmd anywhere, i downloaded your attachment and only the subinacl was in there

Did you download this file http://forums.techarena.in/attachmen...-reset.zip.att perfectly. You can also get it from the microsoft website incase if you are having hard trouble downloading it from the attachment?

Thank you, this fix seems to have resolved the problem with QuicTime returning "unknown error: 1856" when attempting to open any QuickTime supported file type.

I am using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit. So, I had to do some interpretation of the instructions (the utilities are in c:\program files (x86)), and UAC must be disabled.

I need help! Can someone give me step by step directions? please! :/

    THANK YOu! IT WORKEDDDDDD!!!!

Please go through from the first post of this thread again and try to sort out your problem. Repeating all the steps is generally creating duplications and therefore, please go through it and let us know where did you stuck and which part you did not understand while trying the steps. Thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I think there is something different about the reset.cmd on the post a few above this one and the one on the front page. I had no luck using the command prompt. The directory was invalid (even though I was looking right at it!), file could not be found, etc. Then I double clicked the .cmd file from the first post and it said it wasn't a valid win32 command....

I am so glad I kept reading through the rest of this thread and found the second .cmd file! This one worked when I double clicked it, and now stupid quicktime works and I can finish my college assignment! Yay!

Hi, I'm running Windows 7. I went into my Program Files but I don't have a folder called Windows Resource Kits\Tools to save the reset.rar file in. Where would I need to save it.
I'm having the error 1856 with QuickTime. This is my only problem. ITunes works great. Just my quicktime player doesn't work.

I would like to recommend you to use NT utility called Subinacl.exe that can be used to reset permissions in Windows XP, Vista and also Windows 7. So you should try this and maybe you will succeed.

Your rar file now has the subinacl file in it, found the right file here on page 3
I have been at this for the last 5 and half hours, and still get error 46.
Bingo, with the right reset.cmd file it worked like a charm.

Very important, the run command dose not know where your reset.cmd file is, chose browse and find the file, click it, then click ok in the run window
    Many thanks to all

Re: Vista and Quicktime 7.4 ActiveX control error 46

hello everyone! i am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. i've tried all but now i can't install the subinacl.exe anymore, cause i can't access it.

ok...what i did> first of all i downloaded the subinacl.exe, then installed it.

next i've downloaded the reset thing, extracted it, open with C:\Programfiles(x86)\WindowsResoursekit\kits\tools, and all i get is "Access Denied". also i've tried disabling the UAC restarted, and started all over and get same problem, which tells me "Access denied" so i did somethin which i shouldn't have, like to gain access i double clicked on the windows resource kit, says "you don't have permission to access it" click continue to. so i did, and added some permissions so i can access it. well hard to explain, but now i can't install the subinacl.exe anymore. tells me "The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\WindowsResourceKits\tools\Tooldownloadreadme.htm. then clicked ok, and said> "Set Up Failed, the installation of SublAcl.exe ended prematurely because of an error, your system has not been modified. to install SublnAcl.exe at a later time, please run this set up wizard again. i tried again and agian but all else fails. is there any solution of this? what am i doin wrong? help would be great! thanks! just to get my itunes runnin again. this update mess'd up big time!
