Windows Media Player Running Slow Video Files

Alright, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to technical stuff, so talk to me like I'm six years old.

I've just got a new PC. I've downloaded a few videos, but they're all running slow. The sound runs at normal speed, but the video lags behind, and becomes very out of sync. The longer I leave it, the worse the video gets.

I read something about installing new drivers or something, but I'm not really sure what that is.

Here's what technical info I could find; hopefully someone can tell me what to do.

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Driver Version: 7.15.11.7813

All advice would be very appreciated.

Well can you tell us what kind of video it is?
I mean is this happening with all video files you have or only with the downloaded on?
May be you need the codecs for your player!

They were files ripped from DVDs. I looked at some other threads, and someone said that they went to the manufacturer's website to download the driver, so I did this and it seems to have improved (though it's still not completely right).

I seem only to be having problems with movies that are in a widescreen format now, though I'm not sure why...

Just formatted my hard drive and videos that i downloaded and played before on windows media player with no problems now stutter. I also seem to notice that windows media player is useing almost 85% cpu usage.
