Originally developed by Macromedia Flash has remained the reference video format on the Internet for years. However, in 2007, Microsoft introduced Silverlight, a new technology-based. NET Framework 3.0 which not only allows playback of multimedia content but also the development of rich Internet applications. For its part has unveiled Adobe AIR, an execution engine is coupled to the FLEX technology for developing web applications. To curb the widespread introduction of Silverlight for distributing video content, Adobe has introduced this week Encoding Flash Media Server.
If with the current Adobe Flash Server, companies can offer their visitors streaming video content, Flash Media Server Encoding allows visitors to easily encode a video Windows Media, MPEG-4 or H.264 format or FLV F4V, which can then be disseminated through the Flash player.
Laurel Reitman, product manager of Flash Media Server says: "Flash is the most popular format for distributing video on the Internet [...] For customers who thought to use Silverlight for their videos encoded WIndows Media format, this product facilitate their migration to Flash."
Flash Media Encoding Server should be proposed at the end of 2008 for 6000 dollars.
