DNS Warning ID 4521 and ID 9999

    Hi all,

I've 4 domain controllers, they are also DNS server with one ad integrated
forward lookup zone. Two DC are Windows 2003 R2 and the other two are
Windows 2000 Server SP4. The event log of the DNS is filled every few minuts
    of two warnings:

    ID 4521
The DNS server encountered error 9002 attempting to load zone . from Active
Directory. The DNS server will attempt to load this zone again on the next
timeout cycle. This can be caused by high Active Directory load and may be a
    transient condition.

    ID 9999
The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the
initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log
entries that preceded these run-time events. The data is the number of
events that have been suppressed in the last 60 minute interval.

    Thanks

Here you go, you have to create the . zone as ADI zone, then change it to
    standard primary and delete it.

Hi Kevin, and thank you for the answer. I've some extra questions:

    When I perform the sequence:
    1) create the "." zone as active directory integrated
    2) convert it to standard primary zone
    3) delete the zone

have I to wait some time between each step?

Not really, but if you aren't sure, you can wait until it replicates. When
you create the zone, it will overwrite the zone data in AD, when you change
it to standard Primary, it changes the registry and removes it from AD. Then
you only need to delete the zone, so DNS can resolve names using root hints.

    Event ID 4521 and 9999

Is there any problem in doing this solution? I am also encountering this problem after my AD database was corrupted. When we revive the server I have so many even error 4521 and 9999 in my DNS Event Viewer.

I have existing DNS zones (about 10 DNS zones - forward and reverse in my DNS server. Is there any problem that may affect my existing zones.

    Thanks...
