Error 168 - Removable Storage Serv

I keep getting a System error in event viewer Event ID 168, source: Removable
    Storage Serv.
I have googled this to my hearts content and can not seem to find any
    information on this error
I do have a removable tape drive on this server.
The error discription is the following "RSM cannot manage library Tape0.
Failed to communicate with device or obtain device setup information"
Can anyone shed some light onto this error, what it means exactly and how I
    fix it
    Thank you in advance

I have the same problem on a MS Windows XP Pro. SP2 with an internal
HP DAT72 tape device connected to an Adaptec SCSI controller (Windows
says it's Adaptec AIC-7850). The Windows Removable Storage Manager
says the tape is "HP C1537A SCSI Sequential Device". The machine has
    the Intel D865PERL board.

The error usually disappears after Windows restart, but after awhile
the problem occurs again. In one occasion when the restart was not
helpful I removed the tape device from the Windows Device Manager and
restarted Windows. Windows installed the tape device again and the
error in the Removable Storage Manager was cleared.

I got the same error here and still trying to figure out what is the problem.

Just a trick... Instead rebooting the server, have you tried to restart the service "Removable Storage" in services.msc(Control Panel - Administratives Tools - Services)... Very practical when the server cannot be rebooted at any time.
