    DNSApi Event ID: 11164

    I have got a problem to register a member server to our DNS server from a
    remote site. Actually, we have setup a remote site recently and located in a
    different network. And we make a permenant VPN connection to link to our
    corporate network. There is no problem for us to access any resources in our
    corporate network from that remote site. However, this member server cannot
    be registered in our DNS server.

    I have tried to join and dis-join the domain. It's still failed to register.
    When I use ipconfig /registerdns. I got the error message event id 11164, as
    follow:
    The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network
    adapter
    with settings:

    Adapter Name : {9C8CB772-A5D6-489A-96DE-34A6860XXXXX}
    Host Name : xxxxxx
    Primary Domain Suffix : xxxxxx.com
    DNS server list :
    10.56.0.32, 10.56.0.34, 10.18.2.26
    Sent update to server : 10.56.0.32
    IP Address(es) :
    10.106.1.192

    The reason the system could not register these RRs was because either (a)
    the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol, or (b) the
    authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic
    updates.

    To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the specific DNS domain
    name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network
    systems administrator.

    Do you know how to solve these problems?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Eric

    If it is not already installed, install the Netdiag tool from the support
    tools on the install CD, and run netdiag /v in a cmd prompt. Post everything
    under this section:
    DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . :(Passed/Failed)
    The Netdiag tool creates a logfile in the directory it is ran from.
    (e.g.C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator)
