Using Folder Redirection for My Documents

    Hello,

I am running a Windows Server 2003 AD and configured a Basic Redirection GPO
at the domain level pointing to the users home directory. I have found that
my users have saved music and pictures in My Music and My Pictures which is
part of My Documents on my XP machines. I would like to continue to use
Folder Redirection but not include My Music and My Pictures and leave that
data on their local PC's. I do not need to eat up the storage space on my
file server as well as tape during backup. Is there a way to not include
specific files from within My Documents using a GPO?

    Thanks

RE: Using Folder Redirection for My Documents

My Pictures can be directed elsewhere through the GPO provided for
redirecting My Documents - you'll have to create a new GPO as this setting is
only available when you first create it - afterwards it's greyed out.

My Music is not included - it came about after GP was set for XP (it is
available for Vista). Currently the only option I'm aware of is to create a
custom ADM to change the registry setting for it's location. I've had mixed
success with this and suspect the problems are related to the docs having
    been previously redirected.

You can prevent the saving of file types to a folder - prevent *.mp3 from
being saved to the home directories folder. It won't get rid of the current
but will prevent new. A less extreme measure would be to set a limit on the
user's home directory and instruct them to remove mp3 files when they hit it.
