I´m unable to open the logical disk manager service from the MMC or the
computer management console. I get an unknown error message everytime. I
see that the service goes up, but inmediatly shutdown as does the virtual
disk service.
Any ideas?

Check Event viewer for error details.
What exactly happens when you try? Please be specific. Also what operating
system?
In using a RDP Connection to a Windows 2003 SP1 (console session). When i
open computer management and try to access the Disk managemet utility i get
an error that says: "Unknown error". I look at the event view and the only
thing that i can see is that the Logical Disk Management Service started and
stopped without any specific error. Also i see that the virtual logical
disk does the same.
By the way.. if i restart the server everything goes back to normal. But
restarting the server everytime this issue happens does not seem like the
best solution.
When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.
Also what happens if you try while logged into the console?
The server is running the spanish version of windows 2003 SP1, i just copied
the messages and translated them to english. When we are log on from the
console the same issue happens. Restarting the server fix the situation for
a while.
By the way there are also 3 disconneccted TS sessions on the server, if this
has anything to do with it.

The logical disk manager service entered stooped state.
Has anything changed as far as the disk configuration? This isn't much to go
on but it may be some hardware failure. I think I'd be inclined to backup
soon and try downloading and running the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.
(disk and drive controller)
This error also occurs with external hard drives. I have come across a number of Maxtor 3 external hard drives that create the same situation. Some strange reason if the maxtor is replaced with another one the service sometimes restarts. I have also found that the power supply of the device may be faulty and as the device is using USB connections this can have an effect on the server and leave the logical disk service hanging. Best and easiest way to resolve it is to replace the power supply adapter.
I know this thread is ancient. But I'm having exactly the same problem on w2k3 R2 SP2.
Did you found a solution to the problem?

So ancient it has been deleted from the servers so nobody on UseNet will have a
clue what you question is.
