The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer

This is a Windows 2003 R2 Server which is a Guest OS using VMWare Server.
It is functioning as a RAS server using Windows Authentication.

I have been getting the following Event every 20-30 minutes:

    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: IAS
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 5050
    Date: 10/26/2006
    Time: 7:34:33 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: VPNMA1
    Description:
The description for Event ID ( 5050 ) in Source ( IAS ) cannot be found. The
local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event:
    dcma1.corp.company.com, CORP.

I read KB312216, but that seemed to be more for reading a SAVED Event Log.
Here, I am opening the Event log directly on the server (RD vs Local Logon)
makes no difference. I did try the information in the KB, but was still
unable to view the information correctly.

    Any thoughts?

RE: The local computer may not have the necessary registry information

Is IAS installed (note difference between IAS and ISA) on this machine?

Typically when a description for an event cannot be found the application is
either not correctly installed or registered on the machine viewing the log.

If IAS is installed on another computer in your network then this system
could log the error when trying to utilize IAS but wouldn't have the
    description.

I think if you export the log and open it on a different computer with IAS
it will provide the information you need.

Re: The local computer may not have the necessary registry information

    Thanks for the reply.

I exported the Application log and opened it on a lab machine that did have
IAS install; no luck. I then install IAS on the local machine where the
Event log resides (VPNMA1); no luck Even IAS events that appear after I
installed it on there server have the same results.

As I am not using RADIUS and only Windows Authentication for my Remote VPN
users, I'm wondering why it is generating these Events to begin with.

Re: The local computer may not have the necessary registry informa

Found it on my IAS server. It's an informational event "A LDAP connection
    with <domain controller name> for <domain name> is established"

apperently what you are seeing is not uncommon:
    http://eventid.net/display.asp?event...ce=IAS&phase=1

Thanks. That certainly is the message I'm getting.

Doesn't seem to be a resolution though, huh?

There are many reasons for your internet connection slow, such as your browser and windows system are not compatible, maybe you can try a pc cleaning software to handle your problem, try tuneup360, I'm sure it can surprise you!
