    Cluster Service can not be started after a re-boot! Need help ASA

    Node1 (Windows 2003 Enterprise) was re-booted and when it came back up I
    found:
    1. The Cluster Service was gone.
    2. In the reg. file ClusDisk, ClusSvc and ClusNet were gone.
    3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Cluster] Gone.

    I tried to manually regenerate the appropriate entries copied from NODE2 and
    then restart the service and we get the following error in the event log:

    Source: Cluster Control Manager
    Event ID: 7000

    The Cluster Network Driver service failed to start due to the following
    error:
    The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
    has no enabled devices associated with it.

    For more information, see Help and Support Center at
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    The Cluster Service service depends on the Cluster Network Driver service
    which failed to start because of the following error:
    The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
    has no enabled devices associated with it.

    For more information, see Help and Support Center at
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

    Tried rebuilding the service, but it continues to fail.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>sc \\node1 create clussvc
    DESCRIPTION:
    Creates a service entry in the registry and Service Database.
    USAGE:
    sc <server> create [service name] [binPath= ] <option1> <option2>...

    OPTIONS:
    NOTE: The option name includes the equal sign.
    type= <own|share|interact|kernel|filesys|rec>
    (default = own)
    start= <boot|system|auto|demand|disabled>
    (default = demand)
    error= <normal|severe|critical|ignore>
    (default = normal)
    binPath= <BinaryPathName>
    group= <LoadOrderGroup>
    tag= <yes|no>
    depend= <Dependencies(separated by / (forward slash))>
    obj= <AccountName|ObjectName>
    (default = LocalSystem)
    DisplayName= <display name>
    password= <password>

    DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REBUILD THE SERVICE SO IT WILL START?

    I suggest first cleaning up the node using:

    cluster node /forcecleanup

    Once this completes, use cluster administrator to evict this node from the
    cluster. After the node is evicted, use cluster admin to re-join the
    cluster.

    cluster node /forcecleanup

    Gave me an error regarding the service not being started.

    Second, my problem is more relating to the "cluster service" not being able
    to start or created manually.

    I do realize what you are attempting to do. The cluster command I gave
    shouldn't give a message regarding the service not being started and I
    assume you have the syntax incorrect. Type the command exactly as I have
    written it...do not substitute your nodename for the "node" word in the
    command...just cut/paste the following command to a command prompt on your
    "dead" node:

    cluster node /force

    After the node is cleaned, you can attempt to re-join the cluster node using
    cluadmin. When you re-join the cluster, this will recreate the cluster
    service for you. Make sure that cluadmin does not currently list the node as
    a cluster member (evict if necessary).

    I had the exact same problem with a SQL 2005 cluster running Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2. Everything I tried just seemed to make things worse. and just before i opened a request to have the cluster nodes rebuilt again, I tried one last time to create the cluster.

    The issue was on node one, but node two was fine and the cluster service was showing and started. Node one was missing the service and the registry entry. i opened an RDP session on node two, started the cluster admin tool. I selecte dthe option to create a new cluster and put the node one machine name in as the 1st node of the cluster. The Cluster service was then installed on the node one server and I was back in business!

    When adding the second node to the cluster, I received an error message saying that the node was already part of a cluster. I then logged off of the node 2 server and opened an RDP session on the Node 1 Server. I started the cluster admin tool and added the second node to the cluster with no issues.

    This workaround fixed the issue I was having and hopefully it will help you as well.
