Thread: W2003 running .bat/.cmd Service ?

    W2003 running .bat/.cmd Service ?

    Main problem; trying to start .bat or .cmd files as a Service.

    No matter how I install the service (with INSTSRV & ANYSRV) and tweaking
    registry, I still get error "Could not start the TEST service on Local
    computer. Error 1053..." while starting the service. And Allow service to
    interact with desktop has been set on/off, no affect... Help pls.

    What am I doing wrong and how should I do it ?

    Firedaemon can run the .BAT for you, but is not free.
    Consider compiling the logic into an .EXE using AutoIT from
    www.hiddensoft.com.

    For example, here's some AutoIT Version3 code for a goofy service:

    AutoItSetOption("WinTitleMatchMode", 2)
    do
    WinWait ("Microsoft")
    TrayTip ( "Note for you","Microsoft is for girly men",10,17)
    sleep (5000)
    TrayTip ( "","",10,17)
    do
    sleep (3000)
    $msft = WinExists ("Microsoft")
    until $msft == 0
    until 1=0

    I named it Watch_my_titles.au3 and then compiled it as Watch_my_titles.exe.
    I then put the file in "D:\Flat\Desktop Junk\aUTOit\Making a service\" with
    instsrv.exe and srvany.exe.

    On the DOS prompt, I ran:
    instsrv.exe Watch_my_titles "D:\Flat\Desktop Junk\aUTOit\Making a
    service\srvany.exe"

    Lastly, configured the registry by adding:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Watch_my_titles\Parameters]
    "Application"="D:\\Flat\\Desktop Junk\\aUTOit\\Making a
    service\\Watch_my_titles.exe"
    "AppParameters"=""
    "AppDirectory"="D:\\Flat\\Desktop Junk\\aUTOit\\Making a service"

    I want it to interact with the desktop, so I opened the services control
    panel(Services.msc) and tabbed to
    the Logon tab and checked "Allow service to interact with desktop".

    HTH.
