How to install printers automatically in Windows Server 2003 using Print Management console

I have heard that new console does not necessarily need to be installed on a Windows Server 2003 R2 more it can support print servers running earlier versions of the system such as Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003 first name. It should be noted that the computer hosting the console does not require it to be even a print server in the case of installation on a Windows Server 2003. Indeed, the role of print server is often considered to be minimal next to a DNS server, DHCP, or DC, but it is most of the time established in business. From the moment you install a printer on a Windows Server 2003 is that you share it to make it accessible to others, this server automatically becomes a print server, this role is added to it without any configuration. I need some help for installing console Print Management, also another important thing is how to install printers automatically in Windows Server 2003 using Print Management console? I am sure that someone hanging out there will help me soon.

A new snap therefore appears in this version 2 of Windows Server 2003 this is the console: "Print Management". This offers a single interface to perform all administrative tasks for all your print servers and printers. This console is available with this new version of Windows, but yet it supports print servers in Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. With this new console, you can install, monitor and manage all printers in your organization. You'll also get a real-time view of the status of your printers and print servers as well as the ability to configure an alert email and run a script when a problem occurs on one printer.

To install the management console of printing in Windows Server 2003 R2, click Start, All Programs, Administrative Tools, then click Manage Your Server. In the management console server, click Add or Remove a role and then select the role Print Server (Print Server) from the list of available choices and click Next twice to start the installation wizard. It may be that you need the CD-ROM of Windows Server 2003 R2 in the process. Once installation is complete, click Finish to close the wizard. Your server is now configured as a print server (even if no printer has been added). To install just the console, go to Control Panel, then Add / Remove Programs and then Windows Components. In the section "Management and Monitoring Tools", select "Print Management Component", follow the usual installation process. It is advisable to remotely administer your servers, for example on a client so you do not use the resources of a server.

Re: How to install printers automatically in Windows Server 2003 using Print Management console

Now that your computer is configured as a print server, or you install the console manually, you can launch the management console printing (Print Management). For this, several possibilities: either by going directly to the Administrative Tools or via the management console of the server or by opening an MMC (for information another new Windows Server 2003 R2 is the implementation of version MMC 3.0 for Microsoft Management Console) and adding the snap: Print Management. Once the console is open, you find yourself in the left section of a conventional tree you can see a list of your printers and the list of your print servers. The first thing to do is add all your print servers that you manage to have a centralized administration. To do this, simply right click on "Print Servers" and select "Add and Remove Servers ...". Then click "Browse ..." to select your servers on the network and click "Add to List". So your new server appears automatically in the list below, alongside your local server. If it does not appear, click on "Add the Local Server". Repeat to add new servers. If you want to remove a server from the list, select the computer in question and click "Remove", or if you want to reset your console then click on "Remove All". If ever one of the servers added is unavailable (for some reason equipment for example) a red cross appears on the name meaning you can not manage it. (We will see later that it is possible to configure a notification email to be informed immediately in case of failure of a server).

Re: How to install printers automatically in Windows Server 2003 using Print Management console

The console tree of print management has three locations where information is stored printers: Printer Custom Filters (above all), Print Servers (middle) and Deployed Printers (bottom).
    1. The first contains all the printers on your network with a dynamic view of all printers in all available print server (the filter is "All printers" set by default).
    2. Under Print Servers you can see the list of available printers for each print server that you have added to the list.
    3. Finally in the last section, you can see the list of all printers managed by using Group Policy (GPO).
The details for each printer appears in the main panel (right) of the console. For each printer you can see a number of information like name, status, on which server it is installed, its location, share name etc.. etc.. You can add or remove columns, according to the criteria of your choice to display more or fewer features. To do this simply go to the View menu and click on Add / Remove columns. You can also sort your list of printers, according to the criterion of your choice by simply clicking on the column name.

It is possible for each printer to display an expanded view that includes more information including a list of ongoing work or display the queue. You can quickly see the list of documents waiting, their size, ownership, number of pages etc.. Etc.. To enable this extended view, under any print server, right click on Printers and select Show Extended View. Just like the classic view, you can customize the display by selecting the columns to add or delete from this expanded view (right click on one of the existing columns in the dropdown menu and select the name of the columns to display). Another advanced feature of this console is the ability to create filtered views of printers, dynamically updated. This is the first node of the tree as it goes: Custom Printer Filters. By default, when installing the console there are three filters:
    • All Printer: to see the full printers of your computer
    • Printers Not Ready: those who are not ready to print (printers offline)
    • Printers With Jobs: those print jobs in progress or pending.

The advantage is that these filters are not static. That is, depending on the status of the printer will find it in one of the configured filters. Generally these filters are manufactured to a state of the printer that you will see in real time, all printers that are used for example, or all those who do not respond!! You can, of course, add your own custom filters as well as modify or delete existing ones. To create a new filter, right click on Custom Filters Printers then Add Printer News Filter ... Then choose a title (preferably clear) and a filter for your description (optional). Check the box below the description to display in real time the number of printers involved in this filter. On the next screen choose the criteria for your filter. You can create complex filters by adding more criteria (three maximum) depending on model: Fields - Status - Value. In the following example, we created a filter that will select all printers connected to servers whose name begins with "Print" located in NY and shared. Once your selection is made click Next. The last part is optional. It is about creating an email notification (by specifying the email, the SMTP server and the message) or by running a script. Such notification may be used in the creation of a detection filter printers failed to be prevented automatically. Click Finish to save your filter. The filter is immediately applied and you can see the result in the details panel.
