    2008 r2 Adprep32 Not Running

I am trying to prep my forest/domain for Windows 2008 R2.

The domain is at 2003. The server I am trying to run adprep32 on has all the FSMO roles.

When I run adprep32 nothing happens. I just sits at the next line with a blinking cursor. I've done a reboot on the server and scoured google. I've seen a couple references of other people having the issue, but never an answer as to how they fixed it.

    Help!

    Thanks,
    Rob

What command are you typing ( exact ) and are you rinning this from a 32bit
server using an account that is a member of the schema admins group?

Do you run the command from the 2008 R2 disk E:\support\adprep folder, where
    E: is your disk drive?

    adprep32.exe /forestprep

I am running this on a 32bit Windows 2003 R2 logged in as the Domain Administrator, who does have rights for all schema's. In the past, with the same admin login, I've used adprep for 2k3 R2 as well as prepping for Exchange.

    Hello macleods,

Do you run the command from the 2008 R2 disk E:\support\adprep folder, where
    E: is your disk drive?

    Best regards

I've run it both from the CD as well as copying the Adprep folder to the c drive.

So in one case I've run the command C:\adprep>adprep32 /forestprep

and in the other I've run the command E:\support\adprep>adprep32 /forestprep

Is this 2003 R2 server an EN-US installation?

Try typing "C" ( without out the quotes ) at the blinking cursor "net line"
just for grins. A few have reported that adprep then continued after doing
so, but no explanation of why seems to be avaialble.

Is the adprep log file created and can you post it here complete?

Did you run dcdiag /v, netdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl to check for errors
    before?

Thank you all for the help, but I actually figured it out.

I was using the MSDN disc that had multi language on the disc.

    BUT

Under the ADPREP folder, it had zh-hk.
I logged into our MSDN account and downloaded the english only disc, and low and behold in THAT aprep folder was EN-US.

I ran from that CD and it worked.

But it was so frustrating, because there wasn't a log file, there wasn't an event message, nothing.

Anyways, thank you again for your help!

    Re: 2008 r2 Adprep32 Not Running

Thanks this solved my problem. I was running adprep32.exe on an old Windows Server 2000 DC and it gave me just the blinking cursor as well. I hit C and it gave me the screen to verify that I want to continue by hitting C.

I am guessing that it could I could have hit any key to bring up that next screen.
