Several months back I installed Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8.5 on
my Exchange 2003 Server which is running Windows 2003 SP2. When backing up
the system, I use the VSS option. I have never been able to get this to run
for any length of time without getting errors. I run the backup every 4 hours
and a full backup once a week. About every week or so I get this error
message and it does not create a VSS backup.
"Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in
trying to contact shadow copy service writers. Please check to see that the
Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly."
When the next backup occurs, most of the time it will backup without any
problems until I get the error again. Then every few weeks or so I will get
this error message.
"Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The I/O writes cannot be held during the
shadow copy creation period on volume
\\?\Volume{0aaaca0e-2dcf-11d9-abd5-505054503030}\. The volume index in the
shadow copy set is 0. Error details: Open[0x00000000], Flush[0x00000000],
Release[0x80042314], OnRun[0x00000000]."
When this error occurs, the only way I can recovery from it is to reboot the
Server. I have been in contact with Symantec about these errors and they say
it's a Microsoft issue. I did apply the VSS patch a couple of months ago
along with re-registering several dll files.
Any ideas as to what is causing these errors and how to resolve them?
Thank you for any input.
