We are having problems with our web server which is causing our web pages
with SQL queries to error out. We also are unable to RDP to the server, we
cannot browse the web from the server console and we see other authentication
related issues. We’ve found the following events in the logs at the time the
problems start.
In the System Log:

Event ID: 8021 Source: BROWSER
The browser service was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the

We have searched and found quite a few KB articles and web posts relating to
the “Not enough storage is available to complete this command†message. In
response we have increased the swap file size to 1.5 to 3 time the physical
RAM and updated the NIC drivers.
While the problem was active we checked system performance and determined
that there was no unusual CPU utilization and plenty of free RAM and space in
the Paged and non-Paged pool. I also ran netstat and discovered that a huge
number of TCP ports were open at the time. I suspect that this is the source
of the “Not enough storage…†messages but I have not been able to determine
what process or application is generating the excessive TCP port usage. Does
anyone out there have any further troubleshooting suggestions or advice? We
appreciate any help we can get. We’re stumped.
We are running Windows Server 2003, SP2.
