Windows Explorer Slow to List Files When Browsing Folder

I recently upgraded a server from Windows 2000 Server Standard SP4 to Windows
2003 Server Standard SP2. Actually, it wasn't really an upgrade per-se
because I built the new machine from scratch and restored the files to the
new server. *SOME* users are reporting Windows Explorer is very slow to open
one particular shared folder containing approx. 70,000 files. I still have
the 2000 server ... when I open that folder across the network from my XP SP3
workstation it takes approx. 20 seconds to open, yet the same folder open
the W2K3 server can take up to 6 minutes to open! The users who complain
about the W2K3 server being slow use a variety of hard-coded (100 Mbps Full
Duplex) and Auto settings, and are running either Windows 2000 Professional
SP4 or XP SP2/3. Other uses find the W2K3 servers folder opens in 20 - 30
seconds. has any one any ideas as to the root cause of this problem? Thanks,

    PJ.

I should add that when I browse to the folder on the actual W2K3 console it
still takes several minutes to open, whereas on the W2K server console it
    takes just seconds.

Yes, I ran Windows Update after installing SP2 and took all critical patches.
