Automatic Update is disabled

Hey guys, need some urgent help from you all. I am having Windows XP Professional running on Dell desktop with SP2. I had set the system to get the Automatic updates but since last few days I’m noticing it is disabled and am not able to turn it on any more. Whenever I try doing the same it says “We're sorry the Security Center could not change your settings. Try changing it yourself in control Panel”

And when I go to Control Panel and to change the settings, I just can’t because all buttons are unclickable. Somebody please help me to turn on my Automatic Updates. Thank you.

I guess the Auto update service has been disabled. So just go to Start, click RUN, type “services.msc” and press Enter. In the services window, scroll and locate a Service named “autoupdate”. Double click the same and to start and set it to Automatic as Startup type. That’s reboot the system and you are done.

Are you sure you managed to fix the problem? I’m also facing exactly the same problem and when I go to Services Window, I’m not able to find any entry named update. I even tried searching with %update code that came up with no result.

Any help?
