Access to the resource [mapped drive letter] has been disallowed.

We were on Windows 2000 server and just recently upgraded to Windows 2003 server and desktops to Windows XP. The problem now is that some groups are restricted from accessing some drives when they type the drive letter in the address bar. The follow error message comes up:

    Address Bar
Access to the resource [drive letter] has been disallowed.

    Any suggestions is welcome.

Have you tried running the rsop.msc on the Windows XP computer while logged on as a user and had faced the problem or from a Windows 2003 domain controller using the RSOP mmc snapin. I would suggest you to look at the restrictions in user configuration > administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Explorer.

The actual settings that will help you out will be in User Configuration and then Administrative Templates and then Start Menu and Task Bar and then remove Run menu from Start Menu. Or you can also go to the following key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies and set NoRun to 0 and it will fix the problem. You can also try the solution given on this page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179221/EN-US/
