    Problem with RPC service!!!

    Hi,
I am having problems with RPC service on few XP clients. This is preventing
me from deploying SMS 2003 and MOM 2005 agents and hence they are backward on
    patch fixes.

When i try to start the Remote Registry service on these machines i get the
follwing message " Could not start the Remote Registry Service on Local
Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different
from the account specified for other services running the same process". I
accidentally happened to change the log on as account of the "RPC service"
from "NT Service Account" to "local account". This is when is I started
facing the problem. I am unable to change the log on as account back to "NT
Service" as i find all the tabs to be Frozen!!

Browsing the internet for a possible solution found web pages that
instructed to tamper with the "TurnOffRpcSecurity" register word
key.Intersting enough some of the machines missed the following keys which
    other machines had. AllowOnlySecureRpcCalls,
    FallbackToUnsecureRPCIfNecessary, TurnOffRpcSecurity. The machines that
missed these keys were all XP SP 1.

Can someone kindly help me out as i find myself metting a deadend. Any
suggestion would be of great help!!

    Thanks in advance!!!

    RE: Problem with RPC service!!!

I have the same problem. I found that, for individual computers, as a quick
fix, I change the RPC service back to logon with the LocalSystem account. I
don't know why it changed. I wish Microsoft would answer this question.

then i right click on remote registry
    go to properties
    then the log on tab
