Applying Windows 7 ScreenSaver Timeout from Group Policy

I am using Windows 7 on my computer and have set the screen saver to blank and set it as lock after 15 minutes so that it prompts for password fro unlocking. All the things are working well with the Windows XP computers but when that comes to the Windows 7 clients then it never locks. I have also gone through the personalization settings and found that all the settings were proper from there. There is only one thing that you can do and that is to set the timeout from the GPO to not configured. If you have some suggestion for me then please help me. thank you so much in advance.

I was also having the similar problem in my case. In fact, Windows 7 images which are deployed to my computer was made in VMWare and once I removed the VMWare tools from my computer then the screensaver GPO started functioning well again. I would like to tell you that you will not be able to uninstall the VMWare, if you are not in the virtual machine. If you try to do the same then you will get error and so you will have to manually remove that from the registry keys and you will get that the GPO will start working again.

It seems that the group policy is conflicting with the Windows 7 PC and this is the reason that you are facing this problem.

I think that the Windows XP and Windows 7 are not within the same OU and if this is true then my recommendation to you is to make a Group Policy like below:

    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Plicy

User Group Policy loopback processing mode (Merge Mode)

Other than this, you will have to set the following key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop

    ScreenSaveActive value=1 ScreenSaverIsSecure value=1

Make sure that they have checked the checkbox for asking password on resume. If they have not selected that then it will not work.
