How to find the 8-character DOS name for a folder?

I need some help to find 8-Character DOS name of some files and folder in my system. I am using a Windows 2000 system. I had tried to locate on web about information on location the dos names. Ample of them says that it can be found through Properties. But I cannot see anything in that. Is there are utility which can help me to find the 8 character DOS name of what I am looking for. Thanks.

You can locate that through cmd. You have to type the command dir /x. X is the name of folder or file. It will display the 8 Character Dos name of what you are looking for. This is the best way and easiest way. You just need to change the directory through some basic commands and then look for the dos names.
