There’s no shortage of low-cost laptops and cheap sub-notebooks even in India. If you need something else worth considering, say hello to the Wind PC. MSI’s Wind PC is another sub-notebook similar to Eee PC from ASUS but features slightly better hardware in its guts. The Wind PC sports an 8.9-inch or 10-inch widescreen LCD and is powered by Intel’s upcoming Centrino Atom platform (scheduled for June release). Unlike the Eee PC, MSI’s low-cost laptop has a 2.5-inch hard drive to offer 80GB of storage capacity. Final specs of the Wind PC model to be launched in India haven’t been revealed so far but expect it to be priced around Rs. 21,000 mark.
MSI’s Wind PC features an 8.9″ or 10″ widescreen LCD display to provide additional comfort while viewing or reading. The embedded LED power-saving backlight technology can provide better color in richness and brightness. The 1024 x 600 resolution display lends good desktop real-estate on the 9/10-inch display for browsing webpages. Futhermore, the Wind PC also sports an ergonomically designed keyboard to make full use of the small form-factor of this mobile PC. Its keyboard not only has great texture, it also increased the space between the keys to 17.5mm, allowing you to be as comfortable as you possibly can.
Wind PC will come with both Linux (Novell SUSE) and Windows XP version on separate models. Another impressive feature of Wind PC is that MSI offers not one but two SO-DIMM slots. Other general hardware specs of the Wind PC: 945GMS chipset + ICH7-M southbridge, UMA graphics, HD Audio; 4-in-1 card reade; 3xUSB 2.0 ports, 1.3 Megapixel Webcam; 802.11b/g WiFi; three/six cell battery back; 2.3-2.6lbs weight and dimensions of the order - 10.23 x 7.08 x 0.748 inches.
