The photos and videos sharing service Instagram owned by Facebook now has over 300 million users, allowing it to pass the competitor Twitter.

The photo and more recently released videos sharing service Instagram continues to grow and has officially passed the 300 million active user mark (at least one connection in the month). Owned by Facebook, which announced its purchase for $1 billion (actually $750 million), it ensures a 50% increase in its user base in the space of nine months.

This allows it to recount past the microblogging service of Twitter, credited with 281 million users, and closer to the professional social network LinkedIn, which boasts 331 million accounts (but not necessarily active).

Instagram Photos

Instagram sees an exchange of 70 million prints per day in the world but most of the audience is outside the US, with a varied profile. And like other sharing services, a certified account creation system will be in place to attract personalities and generate highly monitored accounts.

The battle with Twitter, which led Instagram expand photo sharing to the short videos to counter Vine service is not complete but obtaining a basis of 300 million active users allows to consider serenely in the future.
