The recent acquisition of one of the most popular mobile messaging by Facebook, Whatsapp, had resulted in the escape of some users, anxious to see their personal data shared by the network. To revive the trust of its users, the service now opts for a total data encryption.

In its latest version declined for Android, WhatsApp application now applies encryption of messages by default. The idea is that only the sender and the recipient will be able to read their contents and prevent leakage of information in case of interception of data, whether from a hacker or information agencies.

And encryption announced is not trivial, since WhatsApp collaborated with Whisper Systems, the company behind TextSecure, messaging presented by experts as the most secure in the market at present.

It is therefore a part of the TextSecure code that installs into WhastApp, at least at the level of data encryption. The application uses an encryption from end to end so that no key is accessible by the application itself.

Encryption in question is currently only available only from the Android version of the application and concerns only exchanged texts (no photos, video or attached part). However, the application indicates that an extension to the full data encryption and porting to other platforms is planned, but no specific date is advanced.

Very popular, WhatsApp network should become the encrypted communication tool as the largest in the world. Jan Koum, the creator of WhatsApp shared his pride: "Respect for privacy is encoded in our DNA."
