If you are used to navigate the software from the Mozilla Foundation, you may have noticed some strange behavior of the Firefox browser these days, particularly in terms of advertisement displayed. It is not a bug that needs to reported from your side, but just a new business strategy of the publisher.

Advertising has landed in Firefox. In its latest version, the Mozilla browser displays advertisements when opening a new tab (randomly, it is still not always the case for each tab).

The ads appear on the display is set to "improved" which offers a historical suggestions. The other modes are "classic" that offers a historic easy to navigate and void offers to no link.

Advertisements can take the place of widgets usually reserved for recently viewed sites. They mix with other widgets, but still can be distinguished by the presence of the word "Sponsored" to the right of the header.

However, users may avoid these ads, it needs only to access a new tab and click on "What is this page" on the top right to scroll through the display modes and select "classic".

The display "Improved" is active by default, another technique to avoid advertising which is enough to navigate on the canvas for the thumbnails that are all occupied, then click on the cross to make disappear those occupied by commercials.

Mozilla adding advertising in the browser has been widely disputed by users, even if some of them saw an opportunity for the browser to detach a little from the yoke of Google, which represents the majority of funding for the foundation.

The form it takes, the currently proposed advertising is far from being invasive and the user is able to control almost completely. One wonders how well this set up will bring the necessary funds for Mozilla to break away from Google, and if it would be enough to save a browser on the steep slope in recent years.
