War on the field of compact storage and SD cards continues. After the announcements from SanDisk, it is the turn of Lexar claiming to be the source for the world's fastest SD card.
Some days ago, SanDisk announced to offer an SD card with a capacity of 512 GB. Not to be left behind, Lexar also released a high performance SD card in the same way.
The firm thus has unveiled the Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II cards with a rate of transfer of 300MB/s read and 260MB/s write. It's the world's fastest card compared to the previously released SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS II plateauing at 280MB/s read and 250 MB/s and write.
Lexar SD cards operate at specifications of UHS Speed Class 3 and Ultra High Speed II, or the latest technology adopted as at the market. If these performances you do not need, it's probably that they really do not address the private market.
Even the ultra HD 4K recordings require only 25 MB/s (HEVC or stroke in maximum). Only professional solutions require write speeds of the order of 125 MB/s.
Still, Lexar has already communicated the price of its cards: 100€ for the 32 GB version and 170€ for the 64 GB version. Note that a Professional Workflow SR2 USB 3.0 reader will also be available simultaneously and costs 30 euros.
