According to a report by The Verge, Microsoft plans to unveil Windows 9 at a press conference on September 30.

Microsoft may unveil new content and Windows Threshold on Sept. 30. Sources familiar with the matter - as the saying goes - have been indicated by The Verge website that Microsoft fixed this date as a "provisional" way to present to the media the coming changes in the Windows code name Threshold.

A pre-release would then be published in the wake or shortly after. And if the code name should be swapped for Windows 9, the only pre-release will probably not fill up on all the news that will be eventually presented in spring 2015.

Lately, the most persistent leaks reported the return of a full Start Menu on the desktop applications combining conventional and modern applications with their live tiles, as well as the ability to run modern applications in a windowed mode. What completely replaces the Home Screen of the Modern UI interface on the "traditional" computer. These are the few points on which Microsoft confirmed to work as part of the "next version of Windows."

For cons, the Redmond company has not said a word about the recent rumors of the removal of the toolbar (or Charms Bar) in favor of the integration of some of its features in the title bar of modern applications with the presence of a virtual desktop manager offered natively, an early presence in the virtual assistant Cortana.

Interestingly, The Verge guess is of September 30th, Microsoft will also provide details on a separate version of Windows involving Windows RT and Windows Phone. Microsoft has not commented on these indiscretions.
