Sony has just announced: the PlayStation Mobile service for Android will no longer have any support beyond Android 4.4.2. The end of an adventure that heralds the launch of PlayStation Now.

After two years of faithful service, the platform PlayStation Mobile should no longer be accessible from the PlayStation Vita. The service was designed to allow independent developers to offer games to smartphones and tablets certified by Sony.

The idea behind the service was so bypass the specifications and costs imposed by large digital music stores such as Amazon or Google application markets, but also be able to offer both mobile compatible titles on PS Vita for players.

Unfortunately, the service was largely limited mainly because it was hardly concerned for the devices in the Xperia range of Sony and a few HTC smartphones. To date, there also is 72 titles available which is only known by the name Lemmings. It is clear that the service has not been able to channel developers.

This is probably what explains the end of support for the Android version of the service, the application is still downloadable, but that will not be compatible with versions above 4.4.2.

Regarding porting games to the PS Vita, Sony is now focused on another platform: its streaming service PlayStation Now, which is expected to be enjoyed on PS3 and PS4 from any platform, be it console, smartphone or tablet.
