Positioned as a leader in the market for cross-platform mobile messaging, WhatsApp continues its growth and would already overshadow the traditional SMS.
Despite the turmoil in the market for mobile messaging society, WhatsApp continues to outpace its competitors including WeChat or LINE, or BBM, Skype, Tango and Viber that are somewhat popular in the market as well.
Last October, during the Nokia World conference, CEO Jan Koum announced that its network was composed of 350 million active users. Three months later, at the DLD summit taking place today in Germany, Mr. Kum announced that this figure rose to 430 million. In June, the team claimed to have reached a new record with 27 billion messages in just 24 hours. Today the platform serves 50 billion deal daily with 18 billion messages sent and 36 billion received (a message can be sent to multiple recipients).
According to the statistics firm Informa published in April, 17.6 billion SMS are sent worldwide every day. According to PortioResearch by 2015, this figure would rise to 22.7 billion. The Whatsapp, application available on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Symbian and S40, would already dethrone the SMS? It is in any case that the analyst Benedict Evans reports through a post published via Twitter.
