To significantly increase the market share of its mobile operating system, Microsoft negotiates new proposals with the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC and considers authorizing the dual boot.
Stalled on the Android Market and in the shadow of Nokia Windows Phone, HTC is trying to stand out and Microsoft intends to take advantage of the situation. According to the magazine Bloomberg, Microsoft reportedly offered the manufacturer to install the Windows Phone operating system on its Android smartphones to leave the choice to the consumer.
According to a source, Terry Myerson, head of Windows Phone at Microsoft, would directly held preliminary discussions on the subject but no decision had already been taken. Another source notes that HTC did not intend to release new devices running Windows Phone, despite the acquisition of Nokia, Microsoft would continue to work with its traditional partners. The editor also considers negotiating similar agreements with other manufacturers who previously adopted Windows Phone. This is for example the case of Samsung.
Through the terms of this agreement, Mr. Myerson could reduce or eliminate the cost of the license of Windows Phone. Microsoft also sells licenses technology patents with Android manufacturers to allow the activation of certain features of the Google system. One imagines that the Redmond company is also ready to make a move at this level.
The question is whether Microsoft begins this strategy and if HTC, which announced a loss of $101 million in its last financial results, accepts such an agreement to stand out from the competition. According to the latest report of the firm Kantar study, published earlier this month, Windows Phone would have a market share of 10% in Europe and around 11% in France and 12% in Britain.
