Google buys Bump, a file transfer app

The company Bump confirms the acquisition of its tools by Google. It did not disclose the amount of the redemption but the giant puts its hand on an application which claims 100 million downloads on Android and iOS.

Bump is as an application to transfer various kinds of data between devices by simply bringing two smartphones. Information such as electronic business cards, appointments scheduling or certain content stored on the phone (photos, music) are taken into account.

In a footnote, Bump announced that it will now be owned by Google. David Lieb, CEO of Bump states that: "Our mission has always been to build simple tools for sharing information that interest you. We strive to create experiences that are allowed through innovations in mathematics, computer science and algorithms."

For its part, the U.S. firm will be able to develop and use its own Bump account but also the service for sharing photos to Flock. It appears indeed as a tool to create collaborative albums.

No amount is mentioned. The American press, however, said that the operation would cost between 30 and 60 million. It will be recalled in this regard that Bump had raised $16 million in January 2011 from investment firms Sequoia, Sherpalo and SV Angel.

The peculiarity of the application is that it does not use NFC. The application detects the sensor information from the smartphone and sends them to a server where an algorithm will analyze and find the same features on the other end. Once the two smartphones are identified, data exchange can take place. Bump was a great success obviously with over 100 million downloads.
