Toshiba 7,278rpm 2.5-inch Hard Drive Series with 7mm Height launched

Toshiba is making more attractive drives, outside the box. It actually launches a model operating at an unprecedented speed of 7278 rpm.

Toshiba announced this week the launch of a new hard drive, answering reference to MQ01ACF, which would be the fastest in its class.

To do this, the hard drive in 2.5-inch with 7mm and the speed is increased to 7278 rpm, while the hard drives for laptops usually operate either in 5400 or 7200 rev/min. There are many hard drives running at 10,000 or 15,000 rev/min, but they are destined to servers.

This additional 1.1% alone should allow it to be as efficient as the hard disk is matured and the speed is the criterion with the greatest impact on performance, firmware's optimized, unlike what happens in the field of SSD. However, Toshiba has not communicated any rate for this hard drive.

Will Toshiba start a race at the speed of rotation? With the progress made in recent years in terms of power consumption and silence, it is not excluded.

Available in 320 GB or 500 GB, Toshiba MQ01ACF will be integrated in future laptops.

It is a HDD which is only 7 mm thick but has technical characteristics that has nothing to envy caomparing the traditional hard drives. The MQ01ACF indeed comes with a SATA III interface and operates at 7200 rpm (7278 rpm even after told by Toshiba). Its average access time is 12 ms, while its consumption is 0.8 W in standby 2.1 W and 5.5 W in operating mode.
