Firefox Metro-style coming on December 10 for Windows 8

After publishing an experimental version of its Firefox browser for Windows 8 at the end of last year, the Mozilla Foundation plans to release it final version to public in the coming December.

Mozilla recently updated its roadmap for the Firefox browser and announced a version specially optimized for the Modern UI interface of Windows 8.x that will be available on December 10.

Having started thinking on a touch version of its browser in March 2012, the designers of Mozilla had released some conceptual images in the following month and released a pre-alpha release in October. Originally scheduled for last year, "Firefox for Metro" will finally see the day in the 26th version of the browser.

An alpha edition, distributed via the Aurora channel will be available on September 16, under the name Metro Preview Release. A few weeks later, on October 28, it will go into beta before being officially published on 10 December.

In the experimental version, Firefox for Metro is already adapted for touch screens with large icons user interface and greater address bar. The application also drew out the specifics of Windows 8 with the possibility of opening a page from Metro on the classic office or reveal tabs to open a finger gesture to find them as thumbnails. Besides adding sites to your favorites, it was also possible to pin the host interface.

Recall that Google also wants to optimize its Chrome browser for touch use, a work that should be available in the thirtieth edition of the application.

Only for Windows 8 this version of Firefox will be released and not for any other operating systems. For Windows RT it will not release because of the decision made by microsoft to not allow any third party browserrs to run on the operating system in the classic desktop mode.
