The Korean manufacturer Samsung continues to invest in the field of new generation screens and announced the acquisition of the German company Novaled.

Positioned as a leader in the market of smartphones and TVs, Samsung is also a leading manufacturer of displays and intends to expand its activities. Via its subsidiary Cheil Industries Inc., the group has completed the acquisition of the company Novaled AG, specializing in the production of OLED displays.

In an official statement, Novaled AG states that this acquisition was made ​​to 260 million euros. Cheil Industries Inc control 50% Novaled while Samsung already owns 10% of society, acquiring additional 40%. Novaled has a total of 130 employees.


According to DisplaySearch study, reported by the Wall Street Journal, the revenue generated by the OLED should represent $11 billion this year against $8 billion in 2012 and 20 billion in 2017. In 2012 the smartphone segment accounted for 71% of global market while the OLED TV business continues to grow and could reverse the situation in 2015.

In presenting its financial results at the end of last month, Samsung announced that its Samsung Display division had spent a total of $5.8 billion to expand its activities mainly on the market for OLED.
