The manufacturer Samsung wants to strengthen its services connected to televisions and confirms that purchase of the company Boxee.
Based on the work of XBMC and stable version available since the end of 2011, Boxee is a multimedia interface that sells in the United States with a box for TV designed in partnership with D-Link that can play streaming media on different types applicable. The company also offers a third-party application among which we find appliations likes Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Pandora and Vimeo. This multimedia interface can also be downloaded and installed on a compatible device.
Last month, we learned that Boxee was looking for investors and it seems that this call didnt go unnoticed as the New York Times reported that the Korean manufacturer Samsung has demonstrated and conducted its acquisition by retaining 45 employees based in New York and Tel Aviv. The acquisition was carried out at 30 million.
These comments were echoed by a spokesman for Samsung, which says: "This will allow us to improve the user experience on different devices." Eventually, the software comes with connected TV of Samsung and should therefore be based around that of Boxee, which is distributed as open source.
