The Gmail service could soon benefit from a new redesign coupled with the introduction of new management tools.
Sorting Gmail messages will soon be simplified. Indeed, according to people at TheNextWeb site, the service should receive very soon new categories and proceed sorting mail automatically. So technically it is pre-configured for certain user labels.
The next version would add five horizontal tabs namely: Main, Social, Offers, Notifications, and Forums. The first will gather the messages received by friends and family members. The Social tab regroup alerts community networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and Google+. Calendar reminders or communications on a flight will be automatically filtered by category Notifications while the Offers section would list the daily specials (Groupon type) or email cyber merchants. Finally the Forums section can be used as a mailing lists and newsgroups.
Already available in beta in the Gmail Labs under the name Labels itself, the mechanism is thus able to the "Filter" feature. Yahoo! Mail on these operations can be performed via the Automatic Organizer application developed by third party "OtherInbox". AOL was also interested in automatic sorting with Alto.
Meanwhile Google deploys an update to its Android application to incorporate this innovation.
