Canonical today released the final version of the GNU/Linux distribution Ubuntu version 13.04.

Available in beta since the beginning of the next release of Ubuntu, called Raring Ringtail, is available for download in final version. It brings several new features mainly laid on the Unity interface.

With Ubuntu 13.04, Canonical wants to further improve the usability of the OS. To this end, the publisher is inspired by the competition by adding the quicklists to switch from one window to another for the same application directly from the launch bar. Like Windows 7 and 8 we also find the opportunity to anchor two windows on either side of the desk.

Also finer management of Internet accounts configured in the options, we find new dialogs for options standby or for turning off the machine. Canonical also reviewed the menu integration of Ubuntu One and that of Bluetooth. The system would also offer better overall performance.


Ubuntu 13.04 is based on the Linux kernel version 3.8.5 with several security fixes and better support for Ethernet cards. Two new versions of Ubuntu are emerging. The first Ubuntu GNOME, GNOME Shell adopts the default interface rather than Unity. For its part the version Ubuntu Kylin has been specifically designed for the Chinese market.
