Netgear announces new NAS finally, almost a year and a half. The equipment is renewed in the entire range, with a new firmware called the ReadyNAS OS 6.x.
New streamlined interface and free and paid apps
Compared to the competition, Netgear emphasizes the fundamentals of a network storage server: the centralization of data and the establishment of a personal cloud. To this end, the ReadyNAS OS 6.0 introduces a new simplified management interface, which is largely inspired on popular storage services online.
ReadyCLOUD function can perform the initial configuration without knowledge of network and easy access to the NAS via Internet. Function allows ReadyDROP to synchronize some data on a Dropbox account. The firmware is also compatible with the native backup of OS X, Time Machine.
Finally, a catalog of 40+ applications called genie can extend the functionality in the particular field of multimedia. Some solutions are usually free such as BitTorrent client and some are sold at few dollars!
Anyway, the range now includes four products:
- ReadyNAS 100 Series: Designed for individuals, two or four hard drive bays, Marvell ARM processor dual-core at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, from 310 euros
- ReadyNAS 300 Series: For individuals and small businesses demanding two to six locations, Intel Atom dual-core at 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, from 660 euros
- ReadyNAS 500 Series: for medium and large enterprises, six locations, Intel Core i3-3220 to 3.3 GHz and 4 GB of ECC memory for up to 250 users for 2000 euros
- ReadyNAS EDA500: unit expansion to five slots compatible with ReadyNAS 300 and 500 Series
- ReadyNAS 2120 for companies, 1U rack at four locations, 1850 euros
All these new products will be marketed by the end of the second quarter of 2013.
