Apple has won SIM tray connector patent for iPhone and iPad. The United States Patent & Trademark Office has approved fruit giants patent related to the design of the SIM tray connector. The USPTO patent No. 8,337,223 titled “Mini-sim connector” is related to the mechanism which is used for inserting and ejecting the sim card from the device. Apple already owns important Nano SIM patent and now after winning SIM tray connector patent we could see battle between Nokia and Apple for their future phones. Apple’s SIM tray connector is said to be invented by engineers Zheng Gao, Benjamin Rappoport and Steve McClure. This patent was filled in the third quarter of 2010 and Apple’s SIM connector can work with Micro SIM, Mini SIM, Nano SIM and even Integrated Circuit Card (ICC). Apple victory over SIM tray connector might discourage their rival letting them to stick to their SIM card standards as there are dozens of their rival SIM card-related patent filings still pending.

According to sources Apple's existing "plunger system," might just not be for iPhones and iPads but it might apply to media centers, MacBooks, or larger screen displays as well. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation for other devices yet.
