Adobe confirms no Flash Player support for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The arrival of Android 4.1 will kick off certifications that will ensure the smooth operation of Flash Player on the mobile operating system from Google. As of August 15, the Flash Player download via Google Play will be reserved for devices that have been factory fitted.

The announcement of the stopping of the development of Flash Player to destination mobile devices, formulated in late 2011, was not taken lightly. Adobe has confirmed that its flash player would not be distributed on the next version of Android.

The editor explains that since Flash Player is tightly integrated with the operating system of a mobile device and its browser, a number of preliminary tests are required. To ensure the proper execution of its client, Adobe proposed a certification program for manufacturers who want the default install on their devices, to date. It will not, however, be the case with Android 4.1: in accordance with its previous statements, Adobe will indeed end this certification process.

At the same time, the distribution of Flash Player via Google Play from 15 August will be stopped. After this date, only devices with Android 4.0 or an earlier version will be provided with a Flash Player installation directly in the factory settings or it can be downloaded from the Google Play.

"If a device is updated from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1, the current version of Flash Player may show unpredictable behavior, since it is not certified for use with Android 4.1. Future updates of Flash Player will not work. We recommend to uninstall Flash Player on devices that have been updated to Android 4.1" Adobe says bluntly.
