The U.S. internet group of Yahoo! recently announced a distribution agreement for content and cross-promotion with the Swedish online music site Spotify.
Yahoo! has approached Spotify to enrich Yahoo! Music. Initially available as an application for PC/Mac and mobile phones, Spotify has recently introduced a widget to insert HTML page links of a song, playlist or album of a band. Yahoo! Music on the Internet will find the Spotify integration within the pages of artists. Subsequently, the music service will intrude on other sites, including Yahoo! Movies and Yahoo! OMG, to find immediately the soundtrack of a film. Meanwhile, Yahoo! will create an application based on the platform of the music service with exclusive content.
According to figures from comScore, the Yahoo! portal counts 700 million visitors, representing 47% of Internet users worldwide. For its part, Spotify would benefit from a base of 10 million active users. In April, Tumblr and Spotify signed a partnership, for publications like audio, and users can simply paste the link of a song to make it available on their blog to other users with Spotify.
