Google Nexus 7 tablet leaked already?

While the annual Google I/O opens next Wednesday, the Australian version of Gizmodo just published a list of specifications that could be those of the Nexus 7 tablet that is expected to be unveiled by the Mountain View company very soon.

According to the site, this 7-inch tablet is equipped with Android Jelly Bean, the new version of Google's mobile OS, which would be the spearhead. The Nexus 7 is built by Asus, that would have a Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, a 12-core GeForce GPU, 1GB of RAM and an NFC chip which is coupled with Google Wallet. Its IPS panel would display on a 1280 x 800 pixels definition and the tablet would have a front camera sensor of 1.2 megapixels. Finally, in the terms of battery autonomy, the device would stay alive for 9 hours.

The document held by Gizmodo also mentions selling prices in the USA, namely $199 for the 8GB model and $249 for the 16 GB model. If they were confirmed, Google would provide a place on the competitive market shelves, especially against the Amazon Kindle Fire, which is sold at $199 also.

Google shelves could be available commercially, including Australia, starting next month. We will have to wait a few more days to find out whether the Nexus 7 is real or just an elaborately fake rumor at Google I/O.

The prices mentioned definately puts the Nexus 7 in direct competition with the Kindle Fire, while having better hardware. It will be good to see the latest release of a Google-branded tablet that comes soon after Apple's iOS 6 and Microsoft's Surface and Windows Phone 8 that is recently introduced, and it will be very difficult to decide for which one to go, in the given choices.
