mintBox small desktop computer pre-loaded with Linux Mint available

The team developing the GNU / Linux Mint announced the availability of its mintBox, resulting from a partnership with the manufacturer CompuLab.

Announced in April, the mintBox is presented as a small desktop computer particularly with a resistant metal chassis and based on the model of CompuLab fit-PC3. Smaller than a box of DVDs, this is the first device to ship Mint. The distribution will be available in version 13. The two partners have also worked on a modified edition of Linux Mint 12 with the desktop environment MATE version 1.2 and XBMC.

The basic version of mintBox hosts an AMD APU G-T40N dual core running at 1 GHz with 4 GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 6290 graphics chip. The Pro edition of mintBox comes with a rugged chassis, features a AMD G-T40N APU dual-core 1.65 GHz with 8 GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 6320 chip. Both models have a 250 GB hard drive, 8 USB ports, an HDMI, a DisplayPort output, input / output audio, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi N, and a Gigabit Ethernet port.

The team added that Linux Mint 13 works correctly with the support of 3D without having to install the drivers provided by ATI. Find more information on this page.

Directly marketed by CompuLab, the mintBox is charged at $476 in basic version and 549 dollars for the Pro model.

Re: mintBox small desktop computer pre-loaded with Linux Mint available

One should know anyway that if they stick with a Linux operating system, this should save them over $100 in the process. I think that this can also install Windows 7 or other windows operating system. Normally, the differences are reflected in the design, processor and graphics, so the higher the specs the better the performance for any operating system.
