Microsoft has now confirmed the availability of Windows 8 Release Preview. Let's do a quick overview of this new version against the changes from the Consumer Preview to get some sort of idea.
The first novelty appears when installing the Release Preview: options for customizing the home screen is a little less, which is really sad! The 9 colors of wallpaper of the Consumer Preview reminded us of the sad hours of Windows 3.1, but fortunately Microsoft has put some color in there, with a choice of - 25 colors! It is still impossible to use a photo as wallpaper, as Metro requires legibility.
No big changes on the face of ergonomics, but added: support of trackpad gestures! Nevertheless, there is a big downside: the management will depend on your trackpad drivers. If you do not buy a new laptop designed for Windows 8, the compatibility (or not) will be fraught with difficulties.
The home screen has changed little when noticed first time, but besides some redesigned icons there are three new applications: Bing Travel, News and Sports apps, as well as Gaming and Music Xbox apps. Unsurprisingly, these applications do exactly what it suggests: display information on news, scores showcase in sports column and travel destinations are als shown, using the theme, which is very elegant.
New applications are therefore emerging, but applications that have already been discovered in the Consumer Preview also undergo a facelift, as they were minimal. The mail client, for example, now displays a list of permanent records, and provides an opportunity to pin a folder of its mailbox at the home screen. Other small improvements include a composition window significantly for magazine, and a support for Windows 8 notifications when receiving new mail.
As for Internet Explorer 10, Flash is alive and comes in this RP, but beware: unlike Google Chrome includes a Flash plug-in, IE10 Metro actually incorporates most of the functionality of Flash 11.3 in its code, and activates them by visiting certain sites on a compatibility list, established by Microsoft and that a user can not add their own sites. The desktop version of Internet Explorer, however, incorporates the plug-in, and no download is required for same.
In any case, if you want to make your own opinion on this Release Preview, then download it from this link.
