The eviction of the Start button and the famous Windows Start menu in Windows 8 seems to be confirmed. On the run on the Web, screenshots of recent build system suggest a taskbar without any mention of its interface element, yet in force since Windows 95.
Awaited the end of February, The Consumer Preview of Windows 8 might not ultimately ship with the famous Start button, yet present in the first test version of the system.
Within the Developer Preview released last September, the Start button from the left part, although the menu of the same name had already disappeared. It used to be called at that that time as a mini-menu of functions and to switch the desktop to the Metro interface. However, it could always open the same menu by dragging the mouse cursor to the lower left corner of the screen.
In this new configuration, the minimalist menu provides access to sharing features or research and a return to the Metro interface takes place on the right side of the screen, super imposed over the Office.
Assuming that these choices are confirmed, the question remains to be seen whether Microsoft seeks to measure the impact of change or eventually to reverse, or indeed if it prepares the disappearance of the Start button.
